For more than a decade the Sport Industry Awards have celebrated and rewarded the best in the UK sport business. Recognising innovation, inspiration, and overall success, the Sport Industry Awards are the most prestigious and sought-after commercial achievement in British sport.

Now, in one of the most exciting years in the history of sport in this country, the activities of its governing bodies are more closely under the microscope than ever before. As the Olympics come to Britain, the organisations behind the athletes must be at the top of their game for their stars to shine in the biggest stage of all.

The Sport Industry Awards have teamed up with The Daily Telegraph to give the highest achievers the recognition they deserve through the Sport Governing Body of the Year Award, supported by The Daily Telegraph.

From winning gold medals to raising revenues, from building strong links with the community to ensuring a strong ethical position throughout its activities, one governing body will be rewarded for its leadership, vision and outstanding achievement when British sport gathers for the Sport Industry Awards on May 2nd in London.

The Sport Governing Body of the Year Award, supported by the Daily Telegraph, rewards one governing body for its outstanding work in the following four key areas:

Performance

Leadership

Ethics

Community

This Award will be made to a single sport governing body, the activities of which between 1st December 2010 and 1st December 2011 significantly enhanced its value. Entries will be accepted from any sport governing body, or operator of a league/competition, which is either based or significantly active within the UK.

The judges will be looking for:

• Evidence of effective leadership on key governance issues concerning the   sport or league/competition.

• A tangible difference to the positioning and perception of the sport and/or   league competition in the eyes of the target market.

• A proven increase in participation and/or public interest in the sport or   league/competition.

• Success on the field at a national or international level.

• Effective event delivery and a tangible commitment to the needs of the fan.

• Evidence of effective community engagement through programmes led by   and/or funded by the governing body. 

• A strong ethical position demonstrated throughout its governance and   business activities.

• Transparency of process and business.

The deadline for final submission of entries is Friday 17th February 2012.
