HSBC Private Bank Sport Industry 3 Peaks Rally
The 3 Peaks Rally Sport Industry Charity Challenge involved 17 teams of hardened walkers who set off to climb the three highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales(Snowdon) back-to-back in a 24 hour period.
Faced with lashing rain and strong winds, the Rally tested the mental and physical strength of the competitors to the limit. Blisters, pulled muscles, aching joints were all overcome in taking the challenge full on. The renowned camaraderie of the sport industry was in full force as the teams urged each other on over the hills. Blood, sweat and tears were all shed but the battle hardened competitors won through to the bitter and extremely cold end...
The teams traversed the three peaks with skill and endeavour raising many thousands of pounds for thechallenge’s chosen charity – the Greenhouse Schools Project. Thecharity uses the power of sport to teach vulnerable and disadvantaged11-16 year olds life and social skills.
The Rally began with a flight up to Glasgow where the walkers embarked on a 1344m hike up Ben Nevis. After descending Scotland’s highest hill, the competitors moved on to climb the 978m to the summit of Scafell Pike before culminating the challenge by ascending the 1085m to the top of Snowdon.
In total, the 17 teams of competitors climbed an immense 3,407m in times hovering around the 24 hour mark with each team consisting of three walkers and a designated driver.
