Sheff Utd to sue West Ham over Tevez- 16 Aug 2007 14:10:00
Sheffield United is refusing to give up the fight for compensation in the ongoing row over the infringements in Carlos Tevez’s registration and will sue West Ham for the cost of United’s relegation from the Premier League.
Sheffield United has been lobbying for compensation all summer over the row which saw the club relegated after the Premier League opted not to dock West Ham points for fielding an ineligible player in Carlos Tevez.
A independent tribunal in the High Court ruled that the punishment handed out to West Ham by the Premier League was fair after Sheffield United appealed against the decision.
Sheffield United’s legal move against West Ham, based on the view that the club had an unfair advantage in signing Tevez, estimates the cost of United’s relegation at between £30m-£50m.
