Leicester Riders saved by new sponsor- 31 Aug 2007 15:00:00
British Basketball League team Leicester Riders have been saved from extinction after agreeing a new sponsorship deal with housing firm Jelson Homes.
The cash-strapped club had faced dropping out of the 13-team strong British Basketball League ahead of the coming season due to financial difficulties.
However, the cash injection from the new sponsor has ensured that the Riders will compete in the new season which begins on 22nd September.
Club spokesman Dan Routledge said: ‘We now have the task of building a club in a month before the start of the season. We hope this will allow us to build more stability at the club so we don't have the same problem next year.’
The club was a founder member of the national league in 1972 and the BBL in 1987.
