Coronation race renamed for Derby Day- 23 Feb 2012 00:00:00
Epsom Downs Racecourse is set to stage the first event of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Investec Derby Day, Saturday 2nd June. The Group 1 Investec Coronation Cup will move from Friday’s Investec Ladies Day to Investec Derby Day.
In honour of the occasion, the race will be renamed The Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup (Sponsored by Investec).
Her Majesty The Queen attended the Derby three days after her Coronation in 1953.
And Her Majesty will also be in attendance, sixty years on, on Saturday 2nd June, part of the two day Festival which offers the £1.25 million Investec Derby, the fastest 5 furlong race in the world, the Investec ‘Dash’ and the renamed Group 1, Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup (Sponsored by Investec).
Rupert Trevelyan, managing director of Epsom Downs Racecourse said: ‘We are delighted to announce the name change and movement of the Coronation Cup to Investec Derby Day, in recognition of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee year.’
