Former Aston Villa CEO Richard FitzGerald has been named chief executive of TV network Racing UK.
FitzGerald, who has been acting as a consultant to the owners of Manchester City since leaving Villa in February this year, assumes the position as Racing UK executive chairman Simon Bazalgette moves on to become chief executive of the Jockey Club.
Chartered accountant FitzGerald brings a wealth of experience with him, including 18 years in various senior roles at IMG, the sports marketing giant, where he was chief operating officer and head of new media of sports TV distributor, TWI.
Will Wyatt, a former BBC Television management director and senior independent non-executive director of Racing UK since its launch in 2004, takes over as chairman from Bazalgette.
‘We are confident that he will lead Racing UK management team to grow the business, building on the successes achieved by Simon and his colleagues over the past four years,’ said Wyatt.
‘Richard’s experience encompasses the full range of sports rights exploitation, TV and new media operations, and sports sponsorship. He has proven leadership skills and understands the importance of managing the full range of stakeholder interests.’
FitzGerald has sat on the European Tour Productions, Manchester United interactive and Sports News TV boards.
