Saudi firm backs London Scottish- 4 Sep 2008 00:00:00

Middle Eastern investment company Saudex Global has signed a sponsorship deal with London Scottish thought to be the largest such contract outside of rugby union’s top-flight.

Saudex Global, an investment company owned by a member of the Saudi Royal Family, has become the new club sponsor of London Scottish for the 2008/09 season.

In a first for UK sport and rugby, the three-year deal, worth up to £500,000, is the first sponsorship of a sports club by a Saudi Arabian company outside of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The deal is also the largest ever secured by the West London club and will see Saudex Global investing in a long-term commitment across the London Scottish infrastructure, from community and junior rugby programmes to the 1st XV.

London Scottish has signed a number of high profile ex-Premiership stars over the summer and, with a new coaching team in place, is on track to return to the country's rugby elite.

With links to Saudi Arabian Rugby being forged, there is potential for an end of season friendly between a London Scottish XV and a Saudi Arabian Rugby XV, and it is hoped that the partnership will produce cross country player development, coaching, and exchange programmes.
