Tour of Britain gets TfL prize boost- 5 Sep 2008 00:00:00
The Tour of Britain cycling race has added three new sprint prizes to its opening stage on Sunday through a tie-up with Transport for London.
In addition to the regular Hot Spot Sprints competition throughout the race, there will also be three extra special ‘TfL You’re better off by Bike’ Sprints on the third, fifth and seventh laps of the London circuit for the opening stage.
At each of these sprints, it will be winner takes all, with the first rider across the finish line on the Victoria Embankment receiving a special prize from Transport for London.
The TfL Stage gets underway at 13.30 on Sunday 7 September on a circuit from Westminster to Tower Hill and back.
Riders will cover 10 laps of the 8.5km (8.6km) course finishing, at around 15.15, before the first Yellow Jersey of the 2008 Tour of Britain will be presented, on the podium, to the leader at the end of the stage.
The Tour of Britain has extended to 8 days for 2008 with this year’s race featuring British Olympic medallists Bradley Wiggins, Chris Newton and Geraint Thomas.
