LOCOG unveils Cultural Olympiad- 5 Sep 2008 00:00:00

London 2012 organising committee LOCOG has announced the plans for the four-year Cultural Olympiad showcasing a variety of cultural events in the run-up to the 2012 Games.

The Cultural Olympiad will begin with a nationwide Open Weekend, between 26th – 28th September with a number of events, large and small, taking place across the country.

Among the highlights of Open Weekend including LOCOG chairman Lord Coe donning his spikes again to take part in a real-life art exhibition at The Tate Britain featuring him running around the art museum as part of Turner Prize winner Martin Creed’s Work No 850.

Additionally on the Open Weekend there will be a special edition of Open Rehearsal, the Mayor of London’s annual festival opening up cultural organisations around the capital for backstage tours, rehearsals and workshops.

Events in Londonderry, the Wales Millennium Centre and a lights display at Blackpool Tower will be among the other initiatives taking place across the weekend.
