Gloucester boss denies sale rumours- 5 Sep 2008 00:00:00

Gloucester Rugby chairman Tom Walkinshaw has denied reports that he is on the verge of selling the club to a Far Eastern investment firm.

Walkinshaw commented: ‘I can categorically say Gloucester Rugby is not for sale.
"We haven't had any approaches, direct or indirect, from these people. We have no plans to sell and have no intention of giving up majority control.’

Walkinshaw, who came to the club in 1997 and has overseen the development of the new grandstand at Kingsholm, was rumoured to be in discussions with an Abu Dhabi firm regarding the takeover.

He did not deny that Gloucester may look at getting financial support to further improve the ground.

‘We may look at bringing in partners because we want to keep growing so we can compete domestically and internationally. We want a larger ground so the fans who want to come can do so and we want to do that as fast as we possibly can.’
