Wimbledon to test Centre Court roof- 17 Dec 2008 00:00:00
To prepare for next summer’s championships, the All England Club will hold an exhibition event on Wimbledon’s Centre Court to test conditions under the new roof.
Because the court is made of grass, the club's chief executive Ian Ritchie said the test is to make sure the atmospherics and humidity conditions are appropriate. To do this, the exhibition must have 15,000 viewers under the roof to ensure that the court stays completely dry throughout the event. The air conditioning and playing surface will be tested as well.
The exhibition is schedule to be held May 17 and will consist of various matches.
Players such as former British number one Tim Henman and John McEnroe, who won the men's singles three times, are among those who may particpate in the exhibition event.
