King George VI Chase loses sponsor- 29 Jan 2009 00:00:00
Kempton Racecourse is looking for a new sponsor after Stan James announced it will not be renewing its deal with the track’s major race, the King George VI Chase.
The bookmaker's five-year contract has expired, though they were reportedly seeking a one-year extension. Kempton failed to reach an agreement, however, which means Stan James will no longer be the sponsor of the highly publicised 26th December race.
The end of the sponsorship is one of many that has occurred for the bookmakers, due to the economic squeeze. The firm's partnership with the Racing UK satellite channel is also reportedly ending while its association with Attheraces PR finished at the beginning of the year.
