Superbowl draws in record adverts- 8 Feb 2010 00:00:00
Advertisers spent as much as $3m for a 30- second commercial during last night’s Superbowl – including Coca-Cola teaming up with The Simpsons and a rare TV advert by Google.
The event was broadcast to more than 90 million U.S. viewers, according to data from Nielsen Co.
Adverts included beer, cars, partial nudity and movie previews. Beyonce flaunted products for flat-screen TV maker Vizio Inc and Megan Fox sprawled out in a bubble bath for Motorola.
With at least 13 new advertisers, broadcaster CBS Corp. pushed sales beyond the $206 million record that NBC reported for last year’s game.
Hyundai Motor Co., Honda Motor Co., Kia Motors Corp., Volkswagen AG’s Audi, and Chrysler Group LLC were the car manufacturers that had prime time adverts.
Coca-Cola teamed up with The Simpsons for their commercial, using Montgomery Burns, seen losing his fortune then being handed a Coca-Cola and all his worries were forgotten.
Google screened an advert to promote its new Chrome browser.
The New Orleans Saints won their first ever Superbowl after beating the Indianapolis Colts.
