Modi: 2010 IPL staying in India- 24 Feb 2010 00:00:00
The Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi has insisted that the 2010 tournament will take place in India this March despite a report raising concerns over the security of the event.
‘We are going to have the tournament in India. I can't see any reason why we should move it at this point in time,’ said Modi.
The tournament could now face the threat of a mass pull-out of players who fear a terrorist attack.
Australia's players have already refused to commit to the tournament and intend to present a list of security demands to the IPL.
This year’s competition starts on 12th March and has faced threats from al-Qaeda and right-wing nationalists in Mumbai.
Last year the tournament was moved to South Africa at short notice because India's government could not guarantee security resources.
