SIA 10: Sir Alex Ferguson honoured by industry- 14 May 2010 00:00:00
Iconic Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been presented with the Virgin Active Outstanding Contribution to British Sport Award at the prestigious Sport Industry Awards 2010 ceremony, receiving his prize from England team manager Fabio Capello.
The two highly respected coaches took to the stage at the Sport Industry Awards ceremony at Battersea Evolution on the evening of the 13th May in front of a packed house of industry executives and sport and entertainment celebrities.
Sir Alex Ferguson was introduced by ESPN presenter Ray Stubbs before Fabio Capello presented the Award to the long-standing United manager.
In accepting his Award, Sir Alex Ferguson commented:
“It is a tremendous honour for me to receive this Award. I have worked in sport my entire life and it is a wonderful industry that never ceases to inspire me every single day. I am very proud to have been a part of the immense growth, on and off the pitch, that sport has experienced in recent years and to be recognised for my role in this evolution is a deeply humbling experience.”
Expressing his delight at being able to present Ferguson ith this prestigious Award, Fabio Capello added:
“It is a great honour to be able to present Sir Alex with this Award. As one of the greatest managers that football has ever seen, I have the utmost respect for his achievements in the game and this is a thoroughly deserved recognition of the immense contribution he has made to our sport.”
Previous winners of the Virgin Active Outstanding Contribution to British Sport Award have included Team GB and Paralympics GB in 2009; Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson (2008); former England captain David Beckham (2007); and the London 2012 Olympic bid team (2006).
