poor viewing figures for Royal Ascot- 21 Jun 2010 00:00:00
Television viewing numbers for Royal Ascot have taken a dive as the Golden Jubilee peaked at 1m – half of the amount of people that watched last year.
That represented an audience share of 10%, down from the 18% when Art Connoisseur won the same race in 2009.
Starspangledbanner won the race and despite the poor figures the BBC was pleased with its output as the racing was moved to BBC2 because of the World Cup.
The figures were substantially down on 2009 for all five days of racing and the news comes after a 33% drop in the peak audience for the Derby recently.
However, the attendance at Ascot was up 2% at 284,196 and the Tote's on-course turnover went up 7% on the previous year.
