Ecclestone: F1 teams may not finish season- 30 Jul 2010 00:00:00

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has admitted that some teams might not have the financial resources necessary to continue racing until the end of the 2010 season.

β€˜I would not be surprised if one or two of them did not make the end of the season. I think there are a couple of teams in Formula One who really shouldn't be there. They are a bit out of their depth at the moment,’ said Ecclestone.

Ecclestone also said that he is not concerned about a reduced number of teams on the grid next year, saying that, of the three new teams in F1 this season (HRT, Virgin and Lotus) he would only be sad to see Lotus leave.

'All we ever want is 10 teams, Lotus is a good name. I wouldn't want to lose them. But in general this year has been a bit of a nuisance because it has cost money to keep these (struggling) teams in.’

β€˜It has cost a lot of money to pay for them to compete,' he added.
