Report warns cricket clubs of insolvency- 30 Jul 2010 00:00:00

A report by Deloitte has suggested that English county cricket is in danger of facing insolvency if a new financial structure is not put in place soon.

The report, that is set to be sent to the ECB next month, highlights that county cricket grounds face financial difficulties if a new approach is not taken.

An estimated £91m is the combined debt levels of the nine Test Grounds according to the report.

However, the report suggests that Twenty20 can provide a lucrative opportunity to create significant commercial opportunities.

£13m was the 2009 income from Twenty20 Cup but the report states that £34m could be up for grabs from broadcasters if a new elite 10-team Twenty20 league was created.

The new league would also see sponsorship income rise by £9m to £10m and match-day income would double to around £14m based on average attendances of 15,000 according to the report.
