HAWK-EYE FIRM GOES UP FOR SALE- 2 Sep 2010 00:00:00

The British-based company that invented the groundbreaking ball tracking technology Hawk-Eye is to be put up for sale.

The technology is used in tennis and cricket whilst there is calls from its current owners and professionals that FIFA should implement the system into football.

Its owners include Mark Getty, a member of the wealthy US business dynasty, whose company Wisden bought Hawk-Eye four years ago.

The company is relatively small with profits of £1.1m this year, despite its high profile brand name.

Shareholder Patrick Maxwell said that the company is looking for a business to help the firm expand: ‘It could also be a vehicle for sponsorship for the likes of financial services companies.’

Hawk-Eye’s current owners are hoping that FIFA decide to implement the technology at a meeting next month – a move that Maxwell believes may happen.

‘The stars are in alignment for that, particularly as a result of the World Cup, which really changed the debate,’ he said.
