LOCOG TO SHOWCASE CITY IN 2012 MARATHONS- 3 Sep 2010 00:00:00

London 2012 organisers are hoping to showcase London’s famous landscape after submitting plans for the Olympic triathlon and marathon events.

Both events will be based around the Serpentine in Hyde Park and the triathlon cycling course will now go down Constitution Hill and past Buckingham Palace.

The London Organising Committee will be using temporary stands and infrastructure at both venues – with the beach volleyball stands already confirmed for Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall.

London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe said: ‘Hyde Park would provide a superb setting for the Olympic triathlon and marathon swimming events.’

Plans for the marathon have also been unveiled with the organisers keen to start and finish the race at The Mall.

The Olympic marathon usually starts and finishes at the main Olympic Stadium but organisers are keen to incorporate as many London landmarks as possible.
