Imagine Dragons to headline Champions League final opening ceremony

UEFA and Pepsi have announced that rock band Imagine Dragons will perform at this year’s Champions League final in Madrid on 1st June.

The match will take place at Atlético Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium and will be contested by Premier League clubs Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, who this week staged thrilling comebacks against Barcelona and Ajax to progress to the final.

City Football Group launches kids startup workshop

City Football Group, which owns Premier League club Manchester City, has launched City Startup Challenge Kids, a new creative workshop for children aged seven to 11.

The initiative gives children with an interest in science and technology the chance to develop ideas that can enhance matchday experiences for clubs within the CFG portfolio. The workshop will take place on Saturday, 6th July at the City Football Academy in Manchester.

City tour offers immersive tech experience

Manchester City has launched a technology-focused stadium tour to mark the English Premier League football club’s 125th birthday.

Designed to guide fans through the club’s history up to the present day, the tour includes 3D holographic content, augmented reality and a 360-degree cinema screen – the first of its kind in the Premier League.

To add to the immersive experience, fans will also have the opportunity to interact with a virtual version of Manager Pep Guardiola, who will answer questions.

World Rugby clarifies Nations League plans

World Rugby has released a statement in an effort to clarify the organisation’s position on the merits and structure of the proposed new Nations League.

It follows criticism of proposals for the new annual global competition from a number of stakeholder groups within the game.

Opposition was led by the International Rugby Players (IRP) council, which issued a statement as the news broke last week, expressing concern over the impact of the changes on player welfare.

Formula E set for London return

Formula E has confirmed its global series will return to London in 2020 with a new venue around the Royal Docks and ExCeL.

The electric racing series last appeared in the capital in 2016, when the London ePrix took place for a second successive year in Battersea Park.

The stage was subsequently discontinued amid opposition from the local community to the disruption caused to the site.  

Royal Windsor becomes UK's richest horse show

The CHI Royal Windsor Horse Show has announced it's to offer a record-breaking prize fund for its 2019 edition, becoming the UK’s richest equestrian show.

History will be made at the country’s largest horse show this year following news that the Grand Prix prize fund has been increased from €300,000 to a €500,000.

The prize boost brings the total cash prize on offer at the show to €875,000.
