After their matches were postponed, German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund turned to digital media to keep their fans entertained, despite not being able to watch the team.

2.9 million Chinese viewers joined in with the clubs’ ‘digital fan viewing party’, which took place instead of their derby match against Schalke 04.

Instead, the club worked with its partner Mailman to stay in touch with fans, and used digital means to offer up unique content which attracted millions.

The club says the digital viewing party is a first for a football club, and adds to the ways in which clubs around the world have taken to social and digital media to keep their fans entertained despite the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
