Intel and Alibaba have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
Both companies teamed up to announce the launch of 3D athlete tracking earlier this year - where cameras capture an athlete’s movements, and AI processors can analyse the athlete’s biomechanical movements, allowing performances to be viewed in more detail.
Now, the pair have announced they will work together to deliver technologies such as 360° 8K virtual reality, 3D digital twinning and cloud broadcasting ahead of Tokyo and the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022. Intel says it brings its processors and AI technology platforms into the partnership while Alibaba Cloud brings its cloud infrastructure and services expertise.
Selina Yuan, President, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence International, said: “The Olympic Games are a grand global sports event and the best platform to demonstrate technological innovations in the area of cloud services and infrastructure. As Worldwide Olympic Partners, Intel and Alibaba Group are complementary to each other, not only in Olympic sponsorship categories, but also in total innovation development for the Olympic Games and related usage cases.”
