Team USA unveils new athlete marketing platform

The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has launched a new Team USA Athlete Marketing Platform (AMP) pilot program, in a bid to expand athlete sponsorship and marketing opportunities.

Built in partnership with athlete marketing platform Opendorse, the AMP will provide athletes with the chance to develop their personal brand as well as growing commercial opportunities.

The platform will be available for athletes to join in January 2021, and be in operation from March, as an opt-in program connecting Team USA sponsors and licensees directly with athletes, providing direct revenue opportunities and marketing exposure. 

The move will create a new avenue for athletes to use their platforms, after the IOC's relaxation of the controversial Rule 40, which which placed a blackout on non-Olympic sponsors of individual athletes promoting their sponsorships during the Olympic Games.
