Unibet has linked up with software company Gamban to integrate blocking software into its self-exclusion process.
Unibet is part of Kindred Group, which said the move marks a first for a UK bookmaker. The initiative is designed to further help customers who self-exclude on the Unibet website.
Kindred Group has previously pioneered responsible gambling procedures, including the PS-EDS detection system. The company was also the first operator to offer free blocking gambling software licenses to its customers.
Kindred Group last year teamed up with Betfilter to help prevent people under the age of 18 from being exposed to gambling advertisements. The tool can be installed on all devices where the user wants gambling ads to be blocked.
The company is now expanding its relationship with Gamban as part of plans to further its commitment to helping those who self-exclude on its website.
Kindred becomes the first operator to offer Gamban’s blocking software for an exclusion period that mirrors the self-exclusion length on-site. The software will be a new addition to the current one-year solution Gamban provides.
As part of the agreement, all customers will receive unlimited access to Gamban free of charge, courtesy of Kindred.
Neil Banbury, Kindred’s General Manager in the UK, said: “Responsible gambling is at the top of the agenda at Kindred and we are proud to be the first UK operator to fully integrate Gamban’s product within our self-exclusion process for the Unibet brand.
“We are strong advocates for education around responsible gambling and ensuring all of our customers are able to make an informed choice. All of our customers should have the tools and support they need to enjoy our products responsibly and by offering this service for free to all of our customers we are certainly taking a step in the right direction. This is just the start of such an initiative as we want to keep on investing across all brands and in other socially responsible innovations.”
Gamban’s software can block access to over 30,000 online gambling websites, including those of unregulated operators. A recent study by GambleAware found that Gamban is up to 99% effective in blocking users from gambling websites.
Gamban Chief Executive Jack Symons added: “Unibet has been one of the first operators to integrate Gamban into the self-exclusion process. Self-exclusion must evolve to protect at-risk individuals from different angles – device, ID and spend.
“Unibet and its parent company Kindred recognise the value in mirroring the duration of blocking software to the amount of time the player selects for self-exclusion, from six months up to five years. It’s a pleasure to work on enhancing self-exclusion with such a passionate and dedicated team at Kindred.”
In November, Unibet, which has a history of sports sponsorships across Europe, agreed a two-year betting partnership with esports organisation Astralis.
