As the Sport Industry Awards launch for 2020, Sport Industry Group’s Managing Director, Alex Coulson, introduces the new changes, innovations and exciting additions in store for the coming year.
An immense year-long celebration, award-winning talent, and a live show like no other.
The Sport Industry Awards are back, and on the 30th April 2020 the great and the good of the sport sector will descend upon Battersea Evolution, for what is the industry's biggest night of the year.
Each year brings new opportunities and 2020 is no different. As the industry evolves, so do the Sport Industry Awards, and we’ve made some interesting additions to ensure they remain as relevant, engaging and insightful as ever.
A FRESH LOOK FOR A FRESH DECADE
As we enter 2020, the Sport Industry Awards will now feature 18 opportunities to take home an iconic trophy. After a summer of dialogue and consultation with the industry, we’ve updated our categories to reflect the ever-changing dynamic of the sporting world.
Importantly, we’ve introduced the Sport Event Coverage Award [replacing 2019’s Media Content Award] and the Creative Content Award [replacing 2019’s Film Content Award]. Both represent the rapidly changing face of content production and distribution, where we’ve seen some incredible developments in approaches, ideas and technology.
Both categories, therefore, are designed to ensure that all work, across multiple platforms, has the opportunity to take centre-stage and we’re already looking forward to the innovative and expansive entries from you.
CHANGING INDUSTRY, CHANGING AWARDS
Elsewhere, changes have been made to respective titles and criteria of a number of categories to add further clarity and coherence, including the unveiling of the Fan Engagement Award [replacing 2019’s Fan or Community Engagement Award], the Data and Business Impact Award [replacing 2019’s Data and Insight Award], and the Innovative Brand of the Year in association with Wiggin [replacing 2019’s Brand of the Year].
We’re also excited this year to be inviting the Young Agency of the Year in association with Getty Images candidates to a live pitch experience during our Industry Selects phase, which follows on from the success of our Agency of the Year visits. The young agencies will be invited to the Sport Industry Group offices to give an insight into their organisations, and we’re looking forward to seeing some of the exciting pitches delivered in person.
We're also proud to have the Tessa Jowell Social and Environmental Impact Award, which champions any organisation using sport as a vehicle to drive diversity and inclusion, social, sustainable and community-based initiatives, ultimately rewarding those using sport as a tool for enacting positive change around the world.
We’re proud of our immensely stringent Judging Process, and are excited to introduce an impressive, diverse Judging Panel that boasts industry variety and insight in equal measure.
Overseen as ever by EY, our Judging Panel matches decades of leadership with those at the forefront of their respective fields. For 2020, we welcome over 25 leading figures, including Intel's VP and General Manager of UK Adrian Criddle, former Sainsbury’s CEO Justin King, Unilever’s Chief of Sustainability Rebecca Marmot, Sport England CEO Tim Hollingsworth, Sky's Joanna Manning-Cooper, LADBible founder Arian Kalantari, Three UK's CMO Shadi Halliwell, JOE Creative Director Nooruddean Choudry, F1's Yath Gangakumaran, Growth House CEO Ben Fennell and British Ski and Snowboard CEO Victoria Gosling. The Panel blends returning expertise with exciting new industry talent, ensuring a balanced and impressive line-up with which to analyse the industry.
SO WHY WAIT?
Despite all of the above, we still also have plenty more to announce and it promises to be an exciting journey. Before then, however, entries are open from 3rd September 2019 to 28th November 2019, so get to work showing us everything you have to offer – it’s been an incredible year of sport and we’re certain that the Sport Industry Awards 2020, and the work it celebrates, will be among the best ever.
