The Jockey Club has announced online car retailer Cazoo as the Main Sponsor of The Derby Festival, with the brand adding to its growing portfolio of sport sponsorship.
The multi-year partnership includes naming rights of eight races during the Cazoo Derby Festival, with this year’s edition taking place at Epsom Downs Racecourse on 4th and 5th June, and broadcast live on ITV in the UK.
The Festival features two of the ‘Classics of the Turf’, both named by the brand – The Cazoo Oaks on day one and The Cazoo Derby on day two – and are both pinnacles of the Flat racing season.
In addition to the two days of the new Cazoo Derby Festival, the partnership will also provide Cazoo with year-round branding rights all year round at all of The Jockey Club’s 15 racecourses across the UK.
“We’re delighted to be sponsoring The Cazoo Derby Festival, one of the biggest events in horseracing,” said Alex Chesterman, Founder and CEO, Cazoo.
“As the second biggest spectator sport in Britain, we look forward to engaging with racing fans around the country through this extensive partnership with The Jockey Club and to delivering the best car buying experience to horseracing fans across the country.”
Nevin Truesdale, Chief Executive of The Jockey Club, added: “Cazoo is a highly ambitious and successful growth brand that matches our ambitions for the future of the world’s most famous Flat race.
“You cannot overstate the importance of The Cazoo Derby to our sport globally and it’s vital we work with a partner passionate about bringing that to life in the years ahead. I’m delighted to welcome the Cazoo team to The Jockey Club and horseracing as a sport.”
The move is the latest in a spate of sponsorships agreed by the brand across a number of sports. The brand’s portfolio includes shirt sponsorships of Premier League sides Aston Villa and Everton, Headline Sponsorship of the ECB’s new cricket format, The Hundred, a league-wide deal with the EFL, Principal Sponsorship of the Rugby League World Cup 2021, and Headline Sponsorship of multiple snooker events, including the Players Championship, Tour Championship, and World Grand Prix as part of a deal with the WST.
