Commonwealth Games CEO to share leadership story on 2nd Feb

04 Jan 2017

David Grevemberg, CEO of the Commonwealth Games Federation, has been confirmed to speak at Sport Industry NextGen: A Celebration on 2nd February.

Grevemberg made the step up to the Commonwealth Games Federation in November 2014 after running the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games as CEO of the Organising Committee, and is now overseeing the multi-sport event as it builds towards Gold Coast 2018.

As the CEO of Glasgow 2014, David was in charge of the day-to-day operations of the company, overseeing recruitment of a workforce of around 1,400 paid staff, up to 15,000 volunteers and around 30,000 contractor roles as well as the procurement of over £300m-worth of contracts to support the delivery of the hugely successful Games on time and under budget.

Before that, David was the executive director of Sport and International Federation Relations at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). A former competitive wrestler, he has also served as a coach, athlete agent, team administrator, consultant and Board member.

The celebration evening kicks off 2017 for Sport Industry NextGen in partnership with Barclays, which identifies tomorrow’s leaders, rewards their potential and nurtures their talent.

Grevemberg joins the likes of Watford captain Troy Deeney, writer and communicator Alastair Campbell, and Arsenal captain and England footballer Alex Scott – who will host the event – on stage to discuss their leadership journey and wider industry traits.

The evening will also offer attendees the opportunity to hear from previous Sport Industry NextGen Leaders - with Sky Sport’s Yath Gangakumaran and Upshot’s Preeti Shetty reflecting on their journey throughout the Sport Industry NextGen Leadership Package – as well as meeting the 2017 group of Leaders for the first time.

Deeney will then conclude the evening by sharing his insight into the responsibilities of the modern day Premier League captain and lessons he has learned from his past to help mentor youngsters rising through the ranks.

Ahead of the evening celebration, Grevemberg will spend time this year’s group of Sport Industry NextGen Leaders during a development afternoon, alongside fellow Sport Industry NextGen Coaches, which will precede the evening celebration.
