CSM Sport & Entertainment has been appointed to support the historic Mitel & MLB present London Series 2019, which arrives in the capital next year.
The Boston Red Sox will face the New York Yankees on 29th and 30th June in the landmark two-game series at the London Stadium, the first ever regular season MLB games to be staged in Europe.
In winning the pitch, the UK agency has been chosen to provide strategic planning and production of venue operations, ticketing services, full event presentation, hospitality services, marketing and communications and fan activation leading up to and during the London Series in 2019 and 2020.
The London-based CSM team will now collaborate with New York City headquartered CSM LeadDog to deliver the event.
Commenting on the deal, Matt Vandrau, CSM Group CEO, said: “Major League Baseball is on the threshold of an exciting new era as it brings games to Europe for the first time.
“We believe that we are perfectly placed with a global footprint, and with a heritage in working closely with North American rights holders to deliver an excellent event and memorable fan experience.”
Charlie Hill, Managing Director MLB EMEA added: “As an organisation we have been planning to bring games to Europe for a number of years. It is important decision for MLB, one that we have taken time to ensure we get right.
“Throughout the process we have been impressed with CSM’s knowledge, breadth of service and dynamism to be at the heart of an undertaking that is breaking new ground for our organisation and our sport.”
Lord Sebastian Coe, CSM Executive Chairman, added: “It is fantastic for CSM to be working alongside Major League Baseball to bring another major sporting event to London.
“Staging a major Series like this, involving two of the most iconic teams in world sport, is more proof of London’s global reputation as a major sporting city.”
At the event’s unveiling at London Stadium in November, Mitel Vice President (UK, Ireland and EMEA) Richard Roberts, told Sport Industry Group that, “This is a moment in time that we need to make sure is capitalised upon. I really do believe that this is an opportunity for us to reset what fans expect from an experience.”
