The Football League has unveiled a new social media campaign ahead of this weekend's Capital One Cup final between Chelsea and Tottenham., which will see the famous Wembley arch turned blue or white depending on the amount of fans tweeting their support.
Twitter users can vote for either Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur, using the hashtags #ChelseaAtWembley or #SpursAtWembley, with the arch to be lit up in the colours of the winning team on Saturday evening, ahead of Sunday's showpiece.
The Capital One Cup Twitter account will provide updates on the #OwnTheArch vote throughout the week – with Spurs currently in the lead after the first day.
The arch itself will also light up to show the latest standings from Thursday evening.
Drew Barrand, marketing director of the Football League, commented: “The Football League is always looking at innovative ways to bring fans closer to the action and this vote really does allow fans to play a visible part in the build up to the Final.
“We are delighted to be able to be able to bring this unique first to Wembley and are looking forward to seeing what colour the arch will be”.
Twitter UK's head of sport Alex Trickett added: “Twitter is the place where people come to share in the biggest moments in the football calendar, in fact eight of the ten most-Tweeted-about UK moments in 2014 were football-related.
“It will be incredible to see fans from the UK and around the world reaching for their devices to light up the Wembley arch this weekend.”
