DAZN has confirmed that Anthony Joshua’s first US fight in June will be carried exclusively on its streaming platform in the American market.
Joshua is set to face fellow undefeated American heavyweight Jarrell Miller at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday 1st June.
The bout will be streamed live over the DAZN OTT platform, which launched in the US last summer, following the agreement of $1bn, 16-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing USA.
The move represented a notable first - taking Matchroom away from the traditional US pay-per-view model. It also included 16 promotions in the UK.
Announcing the fight, Matchroom Boxing Managing Director Eddie Hearn said: “AJ has created an incredible lion’s den atmosphere in the UK and we plan to bring that energy to New York on a card that will be stacked with British vs. American talent.
Joseph Markowski, DAZN Executive Vice President, North America added “Anthony Joshua is the number one heavyweight in the world and DAZN is excited to deliver the British star’s much-anticipated U.S. debut at the iconic Madison Square Garden.
“Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller poses a real threat to dethrone the heavyweight king in what will undoubtedly be a major international attraction and we are eager to see what will unfold on DAZN on 1st June.”
Joshua's defence of his WBA Super, IBF, WBO and IBO titles against Miller will be available in the UK via Sky Sports Box Office.
Adam Smith, Head of Sky Sports Boxing, said: “We are delighted to be showing this massive occasion on Sky Sports Box Office and our team will provide every step of an enticing build up between these unbeaten heavyweights.”
