The new European Rugby Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup, which will be played for at the London finals in 2015 for the first time, have been officially unveiled by tournament organisers EPCR.
Created by Thomas Lyte Silver, one of the last remaining expert silversmiths in the UK, the design concept for the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup trophies ‘seeks to combine the rich history and heritage of two decades of European competition with EPCR's vision for professional club rugby in both established and emerging markets,’ according to organisers.
Thomas Lyte, who also create the prestigious BT Sport Industry Awards, are official silversmiths to Buckingham Palace and responsible for crafting and restoring some of sports most iconic trophies, such as the 2014 FA Cup and the Webb Ellis Rugby World Cup.
Kevin Baker, chief executive of Thomas Lyte, said: ‘We are both proud and extremely honoured to be making the new EPCR trophies, which marks the start of this prestigious rugby tournament. We look forward to seeing who will lift these trophies in the 2015 London finals.’
