A new digital football fan platform has launched worldwide with the involvement of some of the game’s biggest names.
OTRO promises fans exclusive access to the lives of players including Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr and David Beckham.
In total, 16 global men’s and women’s stars are backing the venture – pitched as a digital fan club app, which will offer exclusive curated content and player interaction.
Others involved include Zinedine Zidane, Luis Suarez, Romelu Lukaku, Dele Alli, Paolo Dybala, James Rodriguez, Toni Duggan and Eric Cantona.
Together, they boast a combined social media following approaching one billion worldwide.
The launch of OTRO follows a player-led teaser campaign that dominated social networks last week, resulting in many people asking the question: “What is OTRO?’
Jeremy Dale, OTRO CEO, finally responded in a launch announcement: “Football fans all over the world want a deeper connection with their heroes and this is where OTRO comes in.
“This line up of players is beyond even my wildest dreams and I know that fans are going to love them coming together to form one club where they share their stories.
“We’ve specifically designed OTRO to be a community where members and players engage directly. These players are the founding members of OTRO (meaning ‘Other’ in Spanish) and they are now inviting their fans to join their other club.”

The platform is the latest evidence of the growth of so-called ‘athlete media.’
OTRO claims it will bring fans closer to the sport’s biggest stars, thanks to exclusive and original documentaries, episodes and films.
OTRO will also provide supporters with the chance to comment on videos, participate in quizzes, competitions, live Q&As and experience meet and greet opportunities with players.
The digital platform is being funded by London-based investment firm 23 Capital, finance and solutions provider for the sports, music and entertainment (SM&E) industry.
Created in 2014, London-based 23 Capital, a speciality finance platform, has deployed and advised on over $2.55billion worth of transactions, committing over $2billion to invest across the SM&E sector.
Commenting on its latest investment commitment, Jason Traub, CEO and founder of 23 Capital said: “23 Capital’s funding and specialist sector knowledge of the sports, music and entertainment industries has been central in helping create and build OTRO.
“With an estimated 3.5 billion fans across the world, football is a major driver of online content. It (OTRO) breaks new ground in creating a platform where the players can maximise their digital IP while connecting with their fans through their love of football.”
OTRO chief executive Dale added: “It has been so valuable having Jason and the team at 23 Capital as our investment partners. They’ve been supportive, patient and provided great advice throughout the journey.”
