UEFA and Pepsi have announced that rock band Imagine Dragons will perform at this year’s Champions League final in Madrid on 1st June.
The match will take place at Atlético Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium and will be contested by Premier League clubs Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, who this week staged thrilling comebacks against Barcelona and Ajax to progress to the final.
Imagine Dragons will take to the stage in the minutes leading up to the Champions League final. UEFA said this year’s opening ceremony will feature “a level of production never seen before at a UEFA Champions League final”.
Pepsi serves as the presenting partner of the Champions League final opening ceremony, with the 2019 final to mark its fourth year as sponsor. Last year’s opening ceremony in Kiev was headlined by pop star Dua Lipa.
UEFA Events Marketing Director Guy-Laurent Epstein said: “Last year’s performance by Dua Lipa was a great success, breaking records as our most-viewed, single piece of social media content ever. We know that Imagine Dragons are going to build on our fans’ excitement for the opening ceremony performance with a rock show football fans will never forget.”
This year’s final will be broadcast in over 200 countries and territories around the world.
PepsiCo is an official sponsor of the Champions League in a deal that runs until the end of the 2020-21 season.
