Industry Shorts: Birmingham 2022, Discovery, Guild Esports

Birmingham 2022 has announced a six-month festival shining a global spotlight on creativity in the West Midlands.

Running from March through to beyond the conclusion of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in September 2022, the festival will feature hundreds of creative commissions across the region including art, photography, dance, theatre, digital art and more.

The festival will open with Wondrous Stories created by dance-circus company, Motionhouse. This free to attend show will transform Centenary Square in Birmingham with a production featuring an aerial spectacle with a flying book and a colossal globe alongside innovative digital projections and a cast of over 300.


Discovery has commissioned the production of The Men Who Sold the World Cup. The two-part film from critically-acclaimed directors Daniel DiMauro and Morgan Pehme is the definitive story of how football’s biggest competition was 'sold to the highest bidders'.

With unique testimonials and exclusive interviews from those right at the heart of the story, the documentary reveals the truth behind how the world’s biggest sporting event was sold by some of international football’s most senior officials and how they were eventually evicted from their seats of power and luxury lifestyles.

Made in partnership with producers Story Films and Calliope Pictures, The Men Who Sold the World Cup will premiere exclusively on discovery+ globally on 21st October.


Guild Esports has announced its first ever all-female Valorant team comprised of Roxi, Smurfette, Glance, Kim and team captain Cinnamon. 

The team will represent Guild at the VCT Game Changers EMEA tournament running from 27th September to 3rd October. The team has been competing with their current line up since May and recently won the Women in Games Community Cup.

The team will now compete under the Guild X banner and benefit from the coaching and development set up at the David Beckham co-owned esports organisation.


West Ham United have extended their partnership with current Official Supplement Supplier, Soccer Supplement. 

Soccer Supplement work with a vast number of professional clubs, players and most recently, several international teams and will work closely with West Ham to provide training and matchday supplements needed to enhance the tailored sports nutritional programmes of the players. 


Sport Industry Group is currently recruiting for a Head of Content & Marketing who will lead on Sport Industry Group brand positioning and all content output whether that be live events on stage, owned digital channels or earned media.​

As part of a small team, the successful candidate will manage the Content & Marketing Executive and assist the Managing Director and senior management team in developing new content streams and events. There will be the opportunity to get involved with all aspects of the business including event delivery, business development, and more.  

The right candidate will have an eye for creative marketing opportunities in the sporting calendar, an enigmatic tone of voice,​ be creatively minded ​and be passionate and knowledgeable about the sport industry.
