Manchester United and principal shirt partner TeamViewer have rewarded three Frontline Heroes of the pandemic with an amazing player’s eye view of matchday at Old Trafford using augmented reality technology.
December’s Premier League game against Arsenal at Old Trafford was dedicated by Manchester United and TeamViewer to frontline workers in gratitude for their incredible efforts during the pandemic – with fans invited to nominate their heroes for recognition.
Three winners were chosen to attend the game as Guests of Honour, and, in a first-of- its-kind experience, they were able to watch the build-up to kick-off through the eyes of the players using smart glasses enabled with TeamViewer’s augmented-reality software, named Frontline.
While protocols to control the spread of COVID-19 mean access to player areas is tightly restricted at Old Trafford, the Frontline Heroes were able to peer behind-the- scenes with live images beamed from smart glasses worn by a member of club staff inside the Red Zone.
The guests were able to experience the players’ arrival off the team coach, pre-match warm-ups on the pitch and the walk-out moment for one of the biggest Premier League games of the season, with real-time engagement from the playing and coaching staff.
The winners were also joined in the stands by other fan-nominated heroes who were able to enjoy United’s thrilling 3-2 win over Arsenal courtesy of tickets gifted by TeamViewer in acknowledgement of their fantastic work.
