New Balance has announced it has terminated its sponsorship of England vice-captain, Ben Stokes, according to media reports.
The announcement follows the news that the England cricketer could face criminal charges over an incident in Bristol last month, and it has already been confirmed that the all-rounder will not travel to Australia with the rest of the England squad for the upcoming Ashes Series.
The England vice-captain’s deal with the sportswear brand, which also provides kit for the England team, is reportedly worth £200,000 per year.
The 26-year-old has been suspended indefinitely by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and will miss the tour unless he is cleared by police following ongoing investigations.
In a statement, New Balance - who also has England captain Joe Root, amongst others, on its athlete roster - said: “New Balance does not condone behaviour by our global athletes that does not match our brand culture and values, and therefore we have ended our relationship with Ben Stokes, effective October 11th 2017. We will not provide further comment.”
