Pete Fitzboydon, the former CEO at London Sport and Cycling UK, has been appointed as Managing Director of thinkBeyond.

In the role, he will support the ongoing growth of the consultancy, helping to raise awareness of the ground-breaking work the organisation delivers in driving social change across sport and the wider business sector.

A subsidiary of Benchmark, thinkBeyond is positioned at the intersection of social change and business growth, helping people and organisations to make a positive impact on the world, while also achieving their business goals, with a focus on using sport for social good. Recent work includes supporting ESPN, Special Olympics, Mayor of London and Olympic legend Michael Johnson.

Fitzboydon brings a wealth of experience from over 20 years in the sport sector, including COO at the Football Foundation prior to joining London Sport. He joins thinkBeyond during a period of transition with former Managing Director Alexandra Chalat becoming a Global Advisor to the consultancy, whilst delivering other commitments.

Having formerly also led fitness operator Parkwood Leisure, Fitzboydon will explore thinkBeyond’s growth potential and how the organisation can adapt its knowledge and skills to branch out and support other sectors across the globe, utilising its extensive network.

Having admired thinkBeyond prior to joining, Fitzboydon is excited about taking on the new role: “I’ve loved what thinkBeyond has been able to achieve over the years. thinkBeyond sits at the intersection of ‘sport for social good’ and ‘commercial’, allowing me to now apply my wide sector experience and commercial mindset to doing good. That’s what I’ve enjoyed doing over the last decade or so, so it was a natural fit for me.

“ThinkBeyond has a rich history of pushing boundaries and pioneering, which is something that particularly excites me as it’s what I’ve always done, whether it was opening the first sports tech incubator in the UK or pioneering the use of open data and big data in sport. I get excited by bringing real sector-shifting ideas to life, and that’s what we look to do for our clients at thinkBeyond.

“For me, another massive attraction to this role was the global reach. Not only the fact that we have offices on two continents, but the work is truly global. I have never come across an organisation with so much knowledge of best practice from all corners the world. It’s invigorating in that we can help our clients apply it to their own work in making the world a better place.”

CEO, Founder and President of Benchmark, Nick Keller shared his excitement at working closely with Fitzboydon, stating: “Pete arrives with significant experience that will help in cementing our position as the leading social impact consultancy in the sector. Pete and the team will be building on our strong client list and we will be looking for organic growth to be complimented with harmonious partnerships, joint ventures and acquisitions.

“Our Purpose is to ensure that we continue to bring sports’ unique proposition to organisations, help them grow and deliver positive social impact.”
