With fans once again not allowed to attend matches, Southampton FC principal partner Virgin Media has elected to broadcast Southampton FC Women’s home fixture against AFC Totton or free, marking the first major broadcast for the women’s outfit.
The club, which has been promoted in back-to-back seasons, went unbeaten before 2019’s season was voided and are aiming to repeat the feat this term.
England international Sue Smith will commentate on the fixture and it is hoped it will bring a new audience to the Southampton women’s side.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale, Head of Girls and Women's Football at Southampton FC said: “The fact that Covid-19 curtailed our season early means that the women are really excited to get back out there – to have the match live-streamed for football fans around the country to watch is incredibly exciting too.
“Virgin Media have been a great supporter of us over the last year, so to know that they’re here to help us again this season is another thing to look forward to with the return of football. We’re just looking forward to getting back out there again.”
