Women in Sport, the charity that researches sport purely from the perspective of women and girls, has appointed Stephanie Hilborne OBE as its new CEO.
Hilborne, currently Chief Executive at The Wildlife Trusts, comes to Women in Sport having worked in nature conservation for over 20 years. During this time she has driven developments in both policy and government legislation including the introduction of the Marine & Coastal Access Act 2009 and the Natural Environment White Paper 2011.
Hilborne will join the Women in Sport team at the end of October.
Jayne Haines, Chair of Women in Sport, said: “(Stephanie) brings with her considerable experience as a CEO as well as a strength in campaigning and leadership and we are confident that she will take the charity to the next phase of development.
“Next year is the 36th year since Women in Sport was founded, and we are excited about what lies ahead for this fantastic organisation with Stephanie at the helm.”
Hilborne added: “Sport is something I’m hugely passionate about; it was the centre of my life when I was young, and it taught me leadership, teamwork and resilience.
“After many years in the environment movement, I am delighted to have the opportunity to help Women in Sport with its mission to break down barriers to girls and women participating in sport, unimpeded by social expectations.”
