The World Surf League’s newly-announced WSL Studios has unveiled its initial batch of original programming.
The content offering will tell the stories of the sport and its participants through a range of different offerings, showcasing the lives of the surfers and shining a spotlight on the countries and cultures of the nations and coastlines visited by the tour.
The programming will see original content produced in partnership with Box to Box films, whose previous work includes the successful Netflix documentary Formula 1: Drive to Survive. A multi-episode docuseries will cover the 2020 Championship Tour, while WSL studios has also partnered with podcast platform Himalaya to produce a weekly podcast covering the sport.
WSL President of Content, Media and WSL Studios, Erik Logan said:“WSL Studios is anchored around storytelling that highlights the raw athleticism of the world’s best surfers, extending through everyday people, and the richness of emotions and narratives that surfing invokes.
“With our initial slate, we have endeavored to demonstrate the range of stories that are possible through the Studio and the common passion for people, surfing and the ocean.”
