After four and a half years in the role, Formula 1's Director of Strategy and Business Development has announced he is leaving his position.
Prior to Formula 1, Gangakumaran was a senior strategist at Sky Sports, working on European growth and channel development, including the switch in the UK from numerical to genre-based channels and subsequent change in pricing and packaging.
Gangakumaran, who was part of the inaugural Sport Industry NextGen programme in 2016, said: "After four and a half fantastic years, I have taken the difficult decision to leave Formula 1. It has been an incredible journey and I am proud to have been part of the revitalisation of the sport."
"I would like to thank Chase, Sean, Ross and Stefano for the belief they have shown in me; our colleagues at F1 whose passion and dedication is second to none; and my team: Charles Minors, Miles Lowry, Stephanie W., and Danielle Spragg whose intellect, proactivity and integrity will continue to be huge assets for the company."
"Finally, thanks to the wider F1 community – I have loved collaborating with you these past years to move the sport forward and set it up for long term success. Formula 1 is a special community."
He added that particular highlights at Formula 1 included "bringing Miami onto the calendar and the success of our fan engagement activities in China; introducing F1 Sprint and Fastest Lap Point; creating and driving our ambitious sustainability strategy and working to make the sport more diverse and inclusive."
In his new role, Gangakumaran will be rejoining Sky Sports as a Commercial Director.
