Former CEO, Sported
Since 2016, Chris has been an Independent Board Member of Sport England, where he has been the driving force behind the newly established Talent Inclusion Advisory Group, which aims for national teams across all sports to reflect the broader population in terms of socio-economic background; ethnicity and other factors. He has been closely involved in the introduction of the Code for Sports Governance.
Chris has recently been appointed Independent Chair of Professional Football’s Integrated Coaching Strategy, a partnership between the FA, Premier League, EFL, League Managers Association and Professional Footballers Association. For the last four years, he has chaired the judging of the Sport Industry Awards.
Recently, Chris stepped down after almost five years as CEO of Sported, the UK-wide charity and membership organisation founded by Sir Keith Mills, providing capacity-building support and advocacy on behalf of more than 3000 local groups using sport and activity for social outcomes. This was an interlude in what has mainly been a portfolio career, with a particular focus on organisational culture, change and learning. He chaired the Board of the UK Chip & PIN Programme; delivered learning and change programmes across media, retail and other sectors; facilitated strategic planning processes for numerous Boards, and moderated events ranging from the World Cities Forum to the NHS Medical Directors’ Conference.
Chris has worked extensively within the High Performance sport system, not least as a lead tutor on UK Sport’s Elite Coach Programme, and most recently facilitating post Tokyo strategy sessions around the country with all the Paralympic and Olympic sports. He was Deputy Chair of International Inspiration, the groundbreaking London 2012 International Development Programme, which reached more than 20 million children around the world, and has also sat on the Board of the Youth Sport Trust and Comic Relief’s UK Grants Committee.
