Organising Committee for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games

Laurence Smith is the Head of Venue Technology for the Organising Committee for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he leads the strategy for technology services at all competition and non-competition venues.

His career spans three continents and over thirty sporting disciplines, delivering Technology at major sports events including the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and the Rugby World Cup.

Laurence graduated with a first class honours degree from Aston University, Birmingham, and has a particular interest in Smart Stadia. He was one of three finalists in the 2019 PMI Young Project Professional of the Year Awards and was part of the London 2012 Technology Team that won the Outstanding Contribution to IT award at the British Computing Society Awards in 2012 and the Team Outstanding Contribution award at the International Sports Event Management Awards in 2012.
