Testimonials

Raj Mannick - Leader 2016

Senior Consultant, Seven League

Sport Industry NextGen is the gift that keeps on giving.

As a member of the inaugural group of leaders, the scheme introduced me to some incredibly intelligent, creative, and dedicated people. The year of leadership courses turned professional peers into friends, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. With each year that passes the network expands, and new leaders from different backgrounds breathe fresh energy and passion into the industry.

Bringing people from all corners of the industry together offers a rare but genuine perspective into the challenges and opportunities we collectively face.

It’s no exaggeration to say the course, and people I’ve interacted with as a result of it, has helped keep me motivated and engaged, and committed to challenging and changing the sport industry for the better.

Apply now and champion others to do the same. You won’t regret it.

Hala Ousta - Leader 2017

Diversity & Accessibility Manager, FIFA

Being part of the Sport Industry NextGen programme has been an invaluable experience that helped not only enhance and progress my existing skills but also to acquire and advance new crucial experiences that contributed towards broadening my outlook and understanding of the potential of positive change through the sports industry.

This was paired with the practical element of establishing and enriching relevant networking and meaningful friendships with many professionals and potential leaders in the industry at various levels. If you want to challenge and develop yourself in a supportive environment, I can recommend you get your application in quickly!

Rishi Jain - Leader 2018

Equality & Inclusion Manager, Manchester United

Being part of the Sport Industry NextGen programme really helps you learn more about yourself as an individual and how you can develop, as well as allowing you to build a network which is so vital within the sports industry for anyone looking to progress.

Make sure to put everything you can into your application; it’s definitely worth it. It’s so important to talk about who you are as a person and not just focus on your work. It’ll benefit you in the long run and help your application stand out.

Having the opportunity to think differently and alongside peers from other areas of sport is a benefit that no other programme really offers. It’s easy to forget how wide ranging the sports industry can be until you’re in a room full of 30 people who have each taken different pathways to get to where they are.

I’m so glad to have pursued this programme. I’ve met such talented individuals that I can now call friends and allies. The leadership training was incredibly useful, and I’ve already started implementing some techniques in my day to day.

Lungi Macebo - Leader 2019

COO, Birmingham City Football Club

Applying for the Sport Industry NextGen programme will always be one of the best things I’ve ever done. The application process alone challenged me to be a lot more self-aware, identifying what I bring to the table and where I’d like to take my career. On the application process, be honest, don’t be afraid to list out all of your achievements, big and small and your biggest and most positive surprise will certainly come from the people who will support your application!

Being on the programme has been a real eye-opener, I’ve met some incredible people, developed in a short space of time and will forever be part of this great community, within this incredible industry we work in. I’m genuinely filled with excitement for the future!

Michael Clarkson - Leader 2017

Head of Brand, Consumer, Catapult Sports

I'm glad I applied because the programme expedited my professional growth with exposure to amazing people who have already been invaluable connections and friends in the past few years. My advice for anyone approaching the entry process is to show vulnerability and self-awareness. Tell your own story, the 'why' for your goals and most importantly, the failures.

Joe Dale - Leader 2019

Marketing Manager - Domestic Game, ECB

Being a part of Sport Industry NextGen has benefited me far beyond my original expectations. When I applied I wanted to learn about the commercial side of the Industry having spent six years growing participation within cricket. Now, after 12 months of being a marketing manager for the England and Wales Cricket Board, and solving very different conundrums linked to the commercial growth of the sport, I can safely say I would not have made this career step without Sport Industry NextGen.

During my year, the access to the breadth of development experiences made me consider the professional world from angles that I’d have not been provoked to do so. Working to solve challenges with minds from events, policy, strategy, PR and digital/social businesses stretched my mind and has changed how I approach my work and personal goals.

I have a great group of friends who I can lean on for professional and personal advice, and a network of alumni who never fail to come through for each other when asked for support.

James Funnell - Leader 2019

Partnership Strategy & Planning Director, Formula E

The #SINextGen recipe is simple: 30 ambitious leaders, first class Coaches, and brilliantly organised events. It’s challenging at times, but always fun, inspiring and massively rewarding. The programme has given me the confidence and tools to work towards becoming a better leader and has already re-shaped my day-to-day approach to work. There’s nothing else like it.

Sarah Nickless - Leader 2019

Consultant

Without the Sport Industry NextGen programme, paths with peers from across our diverse sports industry landscape simply would never cross. I am a richer person for the support, friendship and challenges posed by the Coaches, Sport Industry Group team and fellow NextGen-ners who genuinely want the best for each other as people.

If you’re applying to be part of the Sport Industry NextGen programme, do not leave anything to chance and be all in with your answers and ideas. Take time and care over the application, and be sure to involve critical friends and colleagues throughout.
