Director of Strategy & Business Development, Formula 1
Yath Gangakumaran leads the Strategy and Business Development department at Formula 1, providing long term direction for the sport as it aims to step-change commercial performance and better engage fans around the world.
Covering a broad remit, he works across commercial and sporting projects, such as supporting on new race deals and amending the race weekend format. He leads on major corporate projects: developing the sport’s first ever sustainability strategy with a target to be Net Zero Carbon by 2030, and chairing the F1 D&I Taskforce – an industry body that is developing initiatives to reduce the systemic barriers to entry in order to make Formula 1 more diverse and inclusive.
Prior to Formula 1, Gangakumaran was a Senior Strategist at Sky Sports, working on the move from numerical to genre-based channels and amended pricing and packaging and Strategy Consultant at PwC, advising media organisations and private equity clients on corporate strategy and M&A.
He graduated with a degree in Economics and Management from the University of Oxford and has successfully completed Sustainability and Executive Education courses at the University of Cambridge and MIT Sloan School of Management, respectively.
