Snack Media Expands Rugby Portfolio

Sport digital specialist Snack Media now claims to represent the largest independent online rugby network, having expanded its existing portfolio of 350 sports websites by securing Rugbypass.com and the RugbyPass Network.

The announcement coincides with the start of the 2018 Autumn Internationals and comes ahead of a busy 2019 calendar, which will include the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

InCrowd Cast in rugby expansion with Maymask

Fan marketing platform, InCrowd has announced a partnership with Maymask for the installing of its digital LED display software InCrowd Cast.

Installed at rugby stadiums across the UK, Cast allows Maymask to place live content directly in front of rugby fans, providing new methods of partnership communication and sponsor activation opportunities.

Cast also runs with zero downtime, zero lag time and with in-game interruptions (when display graphics are interrupted in real time) to announce a particularly exciting point of play or moment in the game. 

Marseille to host 2020 European club finals

European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) has announced that Marseille has won the bid to host the 2020 Heineken Champions Cup and Challenge Cup finals. 

 

The bid was conducted in conjunction with sports marketing agency The Sport Consultancy and supported by AREMA, Ville de Marseille, Region Sud and Olympique de Marseille.  

The finals will take place over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd of May 2020 and will take place at the Stade de Marseille.

InCrowd drives RFL fan engagement

Fan engagement specialist Incrowd has revealed the results of its first season of video polls for the Rugby Football League (RFL) - part of the agency's work to drive fan engagement via the 'OurLeague' RFL membership platform.

Since March, Man Of The Match polls have been broadcast, updated and announced live over the 'Ourleague' platform, giving fans the opportunity to make personal choices based on real-life game situations and referee decisions.

Rimmer named new RFL CEO

Ralph Rimmer has been appointed as the permanent chief executive officer of the Rugby Football League (RFL) after covering the post on an interim basis following Nigel Wood’s departure in January.

Rimmer steps up from the role of RFL chief operating officer, bringing with him wealth of experience as former CEO of top clubs Sheffield Eagles and Huddersfield Giants.

The appointment follows a lengthy recruitment process, supported by SRi.

RLWC 2021 launches legacy programme

The Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) has announced its legacy programme, as well as a new partnership with Unicef UK, which becomes the official charity of the tournament.

The programme, ‘Inspired by 2021’, will comprise of three strands: volunteers, facilities and community engagement. According to organisers, the programme will look to use the tournament as a catalyst to develop the game of rugby league and engage with the widest possible audience.

Dacia backs England Rugby League

Dacia has become the principal partner of England Rugby League ahead of this year’s Denver Test and International Series against the New Zealand Kiwis.

The four-year deal will see Dacia take a place on the front of the national team’s playing shirts across England Men’s, Knights, Academy, Youth, Women and Wheelchair teams, until the end of 2021, including the next Rugby League World Cup, which will be held in England in 2021.

Rugby League World Cup finalises board

The Rugby League World Cup 2021 has announced the appointment of Brian Barwick as the tournament’s chair of the board, replacing Nigel Wood, while Chris Brindley and Karen Moorhouse have also been confirmed to join the board.

Wood was appointed chief executive of the Rugby League International Federation in January. 

Brian Barwick is currently chairman of the Rugby Football League (RFL) and Super League Europe and was formerly CEO of The Football Association.
