Sports data company Opta has confirmed a new deal with the organisers of this year’s Rugby League World Cup, which kicks off next month, to become the official tournament data supplier for the event in England.
The partnership will see Opta work alongside host broadcasters BBC and Premier Sports, as well as the tournament’s global broadcast partners.
With exactly six months to go until the Rugby League World Cup 2013 kicks off in England and Wales, England rugby league captain Kevin Sinfield has been unveiled as the first ‘Rugby League of The Extraordinary’ character ‘The General,’ in part of a new series to launch of the new England Rugby League website, www.englandrl.co.uk.
Rugby League World Cup 2013 organisers have announced that the BBC has secured rights to broadcast the tournament, showing live coverage of all England games on television and radio, starting with the Opening Ceremony featuring England v Australia.
There will then be live coverage of England’s other two Group A games against Ireland and Fiji, as well as a quarter-final, semi-final showdown at Wembley and the Rugby League World Cup Final at Old Trafford on 30th November.
The 2013 Rugby League World Cup, set to be staged in England and Wales, has signed a partnership with 4Sight Sport which will see the data marketing company become the official data agency of the event.
Mark Foster, marketing manager of RLWC2013, said of the deal: ‘Rugby League World Cup 2013 is a major event in the sporting calendar and so far ticket sales have been very encouraging. We are looking forward to continuing to use 4Sight’s services to develop our data and fan engagement strategy and build on the excitement that a major tournament brings to the country.’
The Hertz Corporation has signed a new partnership with Rugby League World Cup 2013 to become the Official Vehicle Hire Supplier for the competition, to be hosted in England and Wales next year.
Hertz will provide a fleet of cars to carry players and officials between the tournament’s matches and vans for moving equipment such as players’ kit.
Foxy Bingo, the online bingo site, has signed a deal with the Rugby Football League (RFL) which will see the company become the competition's official bingo partner in 2013.
Welcoming Foxy Bingo to the competition's growing stable of partners, Super League commercial director James Mercer said: ‘It gives me great pleasure to welcome Foxy Bingo on board as an official partner of Super League for the next three years. We look forward to working closely with Foxy Bingo and to developing a partnership which will enhance our successful brands.’
Super League clubs are facing combined debts of £68.5m, according to a BBC Inside Out investigation, with several teams failing to generate sufficient turnover.
Sports finance expert Rob Wilson told the BBC: ‘Our findings indicate that there is a cumulative net debt of £68.5m among the Super League clubs with three or four clubs performing well. The remaining clubs appear to make annual losses which contribute to the net debt position, some just about wash their faces financially while others appear to have lost control of their spending.’
The Rugby Football League (RFL) has announced Tetley’s as the new title sponsor of the world’s oldest Rugby League competition, the Challenge Cup, with the tournament set to become the The Tetley’s Challenge Cup for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Tetley's, who were title sponsors of Super League between 2000 and 2004 and RFL, will also become the Official Beer of Super League for the next two seasons - while various new sponsorship initiatives will also be created to support the partnership.
Optimum Nutrition has agreed a new partnership with England Rugby League, which will see the sports nutrition brand become the team’s new official product supplier.
Rugby league club Wigan Warriors have announced a new two-year shirt sponsorship with Ainscough Crane Hire, which will see the Wigan-based company’s logo appear on the left shoulder of the club's home and away shirts until the end of the 2014 season.
