Hosts announced for Rugby League WC

The RFL has revealed that the 2013 Rugby League World Cup will be staged in four countries - with matches played across a spectrum of venues in England, Wales, Ireland and France.The group stages and quarter-finals of the 14-team tournament will see the world’s best international teams hosted in venues from Wrexham to Perpignan in southern France and Bristol to Limerick in Ireland’s south west.The announcement outlines 18 different venues that will stage matches and reveals six other venues that will host teams during the tournament.

Etihad Stadium set to host Magic Weekend

Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium is set to host rugby league’s Magic Weekend next year – according to media reports.BBC Sport reported that it is hoped the event’s move to the north west of England will improve attendances - after struggling to sell out in previous years in Wales and Scotland.The annual event started off in 2007 as “Millennium Magic” in Cardiff, then moved to Murrayfield in Scotland for two years, before returning to Cardiff last season.The move back to Cardiff was a result of a drop in attendance during the second event in Scotland, which went from 59,749 fans in the first ye

Harlequins announces Nuffield Health deal

Harlequins Rugby Club has revealed Nuffield Health as a new Official Sponsor for the 2011/12 season – the first major sports sponsorship for the healthcare provider.   The deal will see Nuffield Health working closely with the playing department in providing advice to Harlequins on matters such as rehabilitation and injury prevention.  As the club’s latest official sponsor, Nuffield will also receive branding on the back of the club’s new playing shirts and advertising at The Twickenham Stoop, the club’s home ground.

RFL invites tenders for 2013 World Cup

The Rugby Football League (RFL) has officially opened the sponsorship tender process for the upcoming 2013 Rugby League World Cup, by calling for tenders for official hotel and airline partners. The showcase event, which will take place in England and Wales, kicks off in October 2013. As hosts, The RFL, on behalf of the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF), is looking for operators to supply accommodation and flights for the event.The 2013 Rugby League World Cup will see 14 nations in World Rugby League compete in 28 matches over a five week period.

RFL extends Sky Sports coverage

The Super League and Sky Sports has announced the signing of a new broadcasting agreement to screen live Rugby League matches at the elite level until the end of 2016.The new five-year agreement sees the Super League gain a record-breaking deal for exclusive rights to matches played during the 2012-2016 seasons spanning Super League XVII to Super League XXI, and taking the partnership with Sky Sports up to its 21st year.RFL chairman Richard Lewis said: ‘At a time when broadcast fees in sport have been under real pressure, this is a tremendous outcome for the sport of Rugby League’.‘It clearly

RFL reveals ninth consecutive profit

The Rugby Football League has recorded a pre-tax profit for the ninth consecutive year in 2010 and celebrates its own golden decade in the Annual Report which was presented to clubs at its AGM last week.The total income received by Rugby League’s governing body increased to a highest ever figure of £22.8m in 2010, a 4.1 per cent increase on 2009.

Sport England cuts RFL & EGP funds

The Board of Sport England has continued its cut backs by reducing the funding available to the Rugby Football League (RFL) and the England Golf Partnership (EGP) in the light of disappointing participation figures shown in the Active People Survey. The RFL has agreed to accept a reduction of £956,188 alongside a renegotiated participation goal, having recognised that it will not achieve the growth in regular and sustained participation commissioned through Sport England’s 2009 – 2013 investment.
