Super League launches with TV changes

The new Super League season officially launches today at Old Trafford, with the announcement that Sky Sports will televise matches on Monday nights, as well as Fridays, throughout the summer.The switch of the second televised game from the previous Saturday slot has been agreed as part of Sky's new five-year Super League deal, with the broadcasters and the clubs keen to fill the gap left on Monday nights when the football season finishes, from late May to early August.The Monday night games are set to broadcast from 21st May, although Sky will already have shown two Monday night games on bank

Aviva joins Saracens’ Wembley party

The Rugby Football League (RFL) has confirmed UK logistics company Stobart as the title sponsor of the Super League for 2012.A statement from the governing body read: 'The RFL confirms that Stobart Group has agreed heads of terms to secure title naming rights to rugby league's Super League.'??The announcement extends Stobart's involvement in rugby league, who currently serve as the principal shirt sponsor of Super League debutants Widnes and hold the naming rights to the team's Halton Stadium.?Stobart takes over from Engage Mutual Assurance who backed the league over a seven-year period.The 20

Hosts announced for Rugby League WC

The RFL has revealed that the 2013 Rugby League World Cup will be staged in four countries - with matches played across a spectrum of venues in England, Wales, Ireland and France.The group stages and quarter-finals of the 14-team tournament will see the world’s best international teams hosted in venues from Wrexham to Perpignan in southern France and Bristol to Limerick in Ireland’s south west.The announcement outlines 18 different venues that will stage matches and reveals six other venues that will host teams during the tournament.

Etihad Stadium set to host Magic Weekend

Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium is set to host rugby league’s Magic Weekend next year – according to media reports.BBC Sport reported that it is hoped the event’s move to the north west of England will improve attendances - after struggling to sell out in previous years in Wales and Scotland.The annual event started off in 2007 as “Millennium Magic” in Cardiff, then moved to Murrayfield in Scotland for two years, before returning to Cardiff last season.The move back to Cardiff was a result of a drop in attendance during the second event in Scotland, which went from 59,749 fans in the first ye

Harlequins announces Nuffield Health deal

Harlequins Rugby Club has revealed Nuffield Health as a new Official Sponsor for the 2011/12 season – the first major sports sponsorship for the healthcare provider.   The deal will see Nuffield Health working closely with the playing department in providing advice to Harlequins on matters such as rehabilitation and injury prevention.  As the club’s latest official sponsor, Nuffield will also receive branding on the back of the club’s new playing shirts and advertising at The Twickenham Stoop, the club’s home ground.
