Eddie Hearn has agreed a $1bn deal with on-demand streaming service DAZN, in the US, moving them away from the traditional US pay-per-view model.
Hearn claimed he wanted to ‘build the strongest stable in world boxing’ after signing a deal that will see Matchroom Boxing USA stage 16 fights a year on Perform Group’s, DAZN, as well as 16 promotions in the UK. None of the fights will be on pay-per-view in the US and will be available for a monthly fee.
Sports service DAZN has appointed Peter Parmenter as managing director of commercial partnerships, with the aim to drive the next phase of the company’s commercial partnerships strategy.
In the newly created role, Parmenter will work with the DAZN marketing and commercial teams as well as Perform’s Goal Studios to develop a centre of excellence and global partnership focus for DAZN.
DAZN has secured the exclusive rights to broadcast UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup matches in Japan.
Football fans from across Japan will be able to watch all UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League games live exclusively on DAZN from the 2018/19 season.
DAZN will become the exclusive home of every match from the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup from 2018/19 to 2020/21 and be the only place that football fans in Japan can watch the top European club teams compete for European club honours.
